Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a way of tapping into natural self-healing gestures and movements that arise deep inside the body. Originating from Cranial Osteopathy in the 1970's, it is a gentle, non-manipulative and non-invasive form of therapy that is safe enough for babies, but also very effective for adults. The respectful form of touch means that tissues very deep in the body can be helped, using almost no physical force.
There is no typical CST session because the technique is very adaptive to each individual. Most sessions take place lying on a couch, and are deeply relaxing. About 50 minutes is allowed for each session because no force is used, and so some time is needed to allow the body to respond in its own way. Most sessions are fully clothed; the only exception being for release of scar tissue or other adhesions in the abdomen - in which case direct skin contact is more effective.
