Reflexology is one of the oldest natural therapies. There is evidence that forms of pressure work on the hands and feet have been used throughout history by many ancient cultures to promote healing and relieve pain. Reflexology, as it is practiced worldwide today, has been developed through knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine acupressure points, ancient Egyptian practices and Western Zone Theory.
As a non-invasive holistic touch therapy, Reflexology works on the principle that the feet perfectly map the body and, with over 7000 nerve endings in each foot, they sensitively respond to the stimulus of the various Reflexology movements used during a treatment. By applying pressure to these nerve endings, the autonomic nervous system is stimulated, which helps better functioning of all the organs and structures of the body. A session encourages the body to come into balance and engage its own healing capabilities.
Our Reflexologist will complete a consultation form with you, which enables her to gain useful and relevant information about your state of health, past and present, and to find out more about your expectations of the treatment. This allows her to ensure the treatment is tailor made according to your requirements. You will remain fully clothed apart from taking off your shoes and socks for foot reflexology.
A soothing Light Touch technique is used to stimulate the reflexes corresponding to areas of the whole body and its systems, focusing on any problematic areas. The treatment instils a great sense of calmness, warmth and relaxation. You may stay alert throughout the treatment, or you may find yourself with your eyes closed and maybe even asleep at times, either way is fine.
