Agnus Castus berries – from the Mediterranean – are commonly used to treat a range of menstrual problems and to promote a more regular menstrual cycle. The herb has a direct hormonal activity on the pituitary gland at the base of the brain, which leads to better regulation of oestrogen and progesterone release by the ovaries. Effectively, Agnus Castus helps to fine tune hormonal balance throughout the monthly cycle, making it a very useful remedy in situations of lowered fertility. Where impaired fertility is due to hormonal imbalance, for example polycystic ovary disease, the herb can directly raise fertility levels and re-establish regular ovulation.
Here at The Norwich Natural Fertility Partnership we do not believe in a one herb fits all solution. This is why your herbal medicine will contain a variety of herbs at a particular strength that will most benefit you and your condition – it may well have agnus castus in it too!
