< Previous As you hold your new baby, who is holding you?

Motherhood is a huge transition in any woman’s life and, as a new mum, you will, inevitably be inundated with advice. Women instinctively reach out to new mums because they remember how huge the transition is, but it is important to remember:

Every mother is different. Every baby is different.

Every mother and baby face their own unique set of challenges, just as every mother and child have their own unique set of gifts. Motherhood is about learning to harmonise with your baby. New mothers need the support and space to get to know their baby and to gain the confidence and skills they need to navigate their own, individual, mothering journey. Motherhood is immense. It touches every part of you, mind, body and soul. It changes you in unexpected ways.

Your experience of pregnancy and birth can, inevitably impact your transition into motherhood, presenting you with challenges to your mental health and well-being. Sometimes birthing just doesn’t go the way we planned and we can be left with feelings of guilt and inadequacy, feeling traumatized by our birthing experience, often despite the safe arrival of their baby. In these cases, the hormonal picture that supports our emotional health and helps us to bond with our babies can be disrupted.

Hypnotherapy can help you to release the trauma of a difficult birth, helping you to find new perspectives on your experience. It can also enable you to understand how birthing can impact the bonding process, providing you with a space to heal and nurture this connection.

It is so important for new mums to have a place to figure out their unique needs and those of their baby, finding your own mothering instincts amongst the overload of well-meaning advice. Hypnotherapy can provide you with this, along with relaxation techniques and self-hypnosis to allow you to restore emotional balance.

I found the birth of my first child traumatic and felt I needed to address my anxiety and fear before the birth of my second child. My husband and I completed a hypnobirthing course with Kerry. I’m so grateful and relieved that we took the time to do this. Kerry completed some specific trauma release exercises with me and this paired with all the other skills and knowledge I’ve learnt from her have now finally brought me to a place where I am excited and happy for the birth to come so I can meet my daughter. Kerry has a wonderful style to her, she is approachable, empathetic, warm and very knowledgeable. Just wish I’d done this before the birth of my first child!'
