As part of our 'fourth trimester' care we provide a 'Healthy Mummy assessment' with women's health physio Hanna.
We’re all so very good at looking after ourselves during pregnancy, often when baby arrives there simply isn’t the time or energy to get to the gym and childcare too is often an issue. Hitting the gym or heading out for a run has its own risks – exercising before the body has fully regained its strength can create lasting damage. Our assessment is a postnatal check-up that can help reduce the risk of having problems later on in life which are commonly triggered or exacerbated by childbirth.
Understanding how giving birth has affected you is extremely helpful when returning to fitness and full health relatively quickly. Postnatal support is helpful whether you've had a straight forward or complex delivery or a Caesarean. In all cases, the core muscles and pelvic floor are likely to be weakened and it is recommended to start working with them as soon as possible. Many conditions can be helped or even avoided with prompt and tailored exercise - too often women wait several years before finally speaking with their GP about a particular problem, they are usually referred to a women's health physiotherapist within the NHS on average 3 years after giving birth by which time problems can become much harder to address. Our postnatal check-up is designed to help manage existing and prevent new problems from arising such as;
• Pelvic Girdle Back Pain and other back pain
• Pain related to C-sections and tears
• Postnatal spinal problems
• Return to exercise and normal activity
• Weak abdominal and pelvic floor muscles
• Bladder and bowel problems
• Pelvic pain (vulvodynia, endometriosis, dysmenorrhoea, dyspareunia)
• Pelvic Organ Prolapse
The assessment is a one hour long appointment which will allow Hanna to design you a programme of recovery to follow in your own time, aimed at helping you take care of your body now and in the future.
